What exactly is documentary wedding photography?
Also known as wedding photojournalism or reportage wedding photography, a documentary wedding photographer approaches weddings with minimal interference, allowing events to naturally unfold and showcase all of the details, moments, and emotions in their truest form.
Unlike other wedding photography styles, which might strongly emphasize formal portraits, group photos, current trends and staged moments, documentary wedding photography aims to candidly capture the wedding day as a whole, creating a visual narrative driven by the personalities and interactions that make the wedding day uniquely yours.
By hiring a documentary wedding photographer you are going to always be in the moment, enjoying the greatest day of your life.
I’m commonly asked, does this mean we won’t take any formal portraits of the two of us, or with our family members?
Not at all! We can certainly make time for group photos with your closest loved ones as well as some great portraits of the two of you together. However, I am always conscious of how to take these photos most efficiently, so you can get back to enjoying the celebration with your family and friends as soon as possible.
The last thing I want is for your wedding photos to be a montage of contrived wedding trends that will be cringey and outdated in just a matter of time. Rather, I want you to have a gallery of images that transport you directly back to all of those very real, fleeting moments - most of which you didn’t even know were happening.
