Sea Palms Resort

Ashlee + Troy

In the wedding business, there’s a unique brand of problem-solving that thrives under pressure. Tight timelines, unexpected hiccups, and last-minute improvisations are all par for the course. But every so often, a wedding comes along that pushes everyone involved to new creative heights .

This past fall, I had the honor of capturing Ashlee and Troy’s wedding at the stunning Sea Pines Resort on St. Simons Island. The coastal Georgia setting was perfect, but there was one major twist: Hurricane Helene had swept through just days before, leaving the entire island without electricity.

Despite this massive challenge, Ashlee, Troy, vendors, and the resort team came together with ingenuity and determination to make magic happen. With no power to rely on, the kitchen staff sourced a food truck to serve as their workstation. The DJ turned a golf cart into a mobile sound system, ensuring music filled the air. Bridesmaids got creative, using a pickup truck to power beauty tools for hair and makeup. And with the on-site ballroom being pitch-black, the team transformed a beautiful green space into the perfect reception site.

Each workaround added a layer of intimacy and charm to the day, making it clear that everyone involved was fully invested in creating an unforgettable experience. As if to reward their efforts, Mother Nature offered the most breathtaking sunset as the evening unfolded, casting a pink and blue sky over the celebration — sort of a quiet nod to the resilience, craftiness, and patience that brought the day to life.

While no one could have planned for the challenges that arose, Ashlee and Troy’s wedding stands as a testament to the power of teamwork and adaptability. It was a day that proved even when plans are turned upside down, there is still no stopping the true heart of a wedding day: the people, the love, and the unshakable will to celebrate.
